Port Canaveral is the cruise port for Orlando, and it shows: theme-park families, drive-in cruisers from across the Southeast and a fleet of very large ships. The port reported more than 8.6 million revenue passenger movements in fiscal 2025 and calls its terminals the busiest in the world. Royal Caribbean, Carnival and Disney all base some of their newest ships here, alongside MSC, Norwegian, Celebrity and Princess.

Most sailings are three- to five-night Bahamas trips, often stopping at a line's private island, plus seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries. Because the port sits next to Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and Kennedy Space Center, a rocket launch during sailaway is a real possibility, which no other U.S. cruise port can match.

The setting is low-key compared with Miami: terminals line a single harbor road, each with its own garage, and Cocoa Beach is minutes away. The main logistics question is the drive from Orlando, about 45 miles on the State Road 528 toll road, so plan your airport transfer before you book flights.

Getting there

From Orlando, take State Road 528 (the Beachline, a toll road) east straight to the port, about 45 miles from MCO. Cruise-line transfers, private shuttle companies and rideshare all run this route. Melbourne's smaller airport is closer if your flights work. Use your terminal number, not just 'Port Canaveral', in your map app, since terminals sit on both sides of the harbor.

  • MCO Orlando International Airport: about 45 miles
  • MLB Melbourne Orlando International Airport: about 25 miles
  • SFB Orlando Sanford International Airport: about 60 miles

Parking

The Canaveral Port Authority operates a garage and surface lots at every cruise terminal, including spaces for oversized vehicles. As of October 2026 the port lists $20 per day plus tax for cars and RVs, counting both the arrival and departure days, paid on entry. Parking is cashless (American Express, Visa, Mastercard and Discover), and garages and lots do not open to embarking passengers before 10 a.m.

Where to stay the night before

Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach hotels are closest, and many offer park-and-cruise packages or shuttles. Orlando airport hotels make sense if you land late and want a simple transfer in the morning.

Season: Year-round, with departures nearly every day of the week.

Embarkation-day tips

  • Garages do not open for embarking guests before 10 a.m., so arriving very early just means waiting in line.
  • Have a credit card ready; port parking is cashless.
  • Check the launch schedule for Cape Canaveral before your trip; a rocket launch during sailaway is a memorable bonus.
  • Terminal assignments can change; Disney, for example, sails from both Terminal 8 and Terminal 10, so confirm in your documents.
  • Budget for SR 528 tolls if you are driving or using a rental car from Orlando.
